  2. Nope. The water is potable and is consumed by humans, but is mostly used for industry requiring high purity water.Though clean, people do not really like the taste.

  11. NEWater is high-grade reclaimed water produced from treated used water that is purified further using advanced membrane technologies, making the water ultra-clean and safe to drink.

NEWater has passed more than 30,000 scientific tests and surpasses World Health Organisation requirements.

PUB also blends a small percentage of the NEWater with the reservoir water.

  19. Yes.
With NEWater, dirty water can be treated and purified into clean and drinkable water. This way, Singapore will not have a water shortage/crisis, for dirty water can be treated.
With NEWater, water can be conserved too. We can reuse dirty water by purifying them into drinkable water. Water, a precious resource, will then, can be conserved for future use.
Also, with NEWater, Singapore will not need to buy water from neighbouring countries, which can save money.
To summarize, NEWater is a solution to Singapore's water problems.

  21. Although NEWater is ultra clean, many people(like me) do not like to drink it...BUT, we can use it for other activities like supplying it to wafer fabrication, electronics and power generation industries for process use as well as commercial and institutional complexes for air-con cooling purposes.

  22. some information from someone who is godly:

Water recycling in Singapore began in 1974 but the experimental treatment plant was closed a year later due to cost and reliability issues. [1]

The Singapore Water Reclamation Study (NEWater Study) was initiated in 1998 by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR). The aim of this study was to determine if NEWater was a viable source of raw water for Singapore's needs. NEWater and desalination were explored as means to reduce reliance on water imported from Malaysia, which has been a source of friction over the years. Also, while the Malaysian government is treaty-bound to sell Singapore water until 2011, it is under no obligation to do so after this.it can still sell water until 2061.

In 2001, PUB began an effort to increase water supplies for non-potable use. Using NEWater for these applications would reduce the demand on the reservoirs for potable water
